Priorities and Recommendations

Regional Priorities identified in 2010 by the Orientation Committee of the partners for health and well-being in Nunavik.

Priority A-Complete service provision in regards to Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder

Goal

Prevent FASD and provide diagnostic and support services for those already affected.

Timeframe for the drafting of recommendations

Between 2010 and 2012, the Nuisuurq-FASD working committee, under the successive chairwomanship of Aani Tulugak and Martha Iqaluk-Inukpuk, drafted a first set of recommendations dedicated to the prevention of FASD.

The Addictions advisory committee, under the chairwomanship of Siasi Smiler-Irqumia adjusted and approved the first set of recommendations.

In 2013, the Addictions advisory committee, under the chairwomanship of Jennifer Hunter, prepared and approved a second set of recommendations dedicated to FASD identification, diagnostic and support services.

The NRBHSS board of directors studied and adopted the first set of recommendations in December 2012 and the second set in December 2013.

Priority B-Support services and prevention of substance abuse for the six to twelve year old children

Goal

Reduce the impact of parental substance abuse on children and prevent children from developing substance abuse issues.

Timeframe for the drafting of recommendations

In 2013, the Addictions advisory committee, under the chairwomanship of Jennifer Hunter, prepared and approved a first and last set of recommendations dedicated to support youths affected by parental substance abuse and to prevent them from developing addictions.

The NRBHSS board of directors studied and adopted the recommendations in December 2013.

Priority C-Deploy a network of community-based certified Inuit addictions counselors across Nunavik

Goal

Offer professional addictions services in each community. Improve identification, counseling and after care services.

In 2014, the Addictions advisory committee, under the chairwomanship of Jennifer Hunter, prepared and approved a first and last set of recommendations dedicated to the training and deployment of certified Inuit addictions counselors in each community of Nunavik.

The NRBHSS board of directors studied and adopted the recommendations in December 2014.
